Violence, Bare Lifes and Ways of Resisting: A study about the "War on Drugs" in the Philippines

Abstract: This article aims to analyze the War on Drugs happening on the Philippines, which started in 2016 with the election of president Rodrigo Duterte and which, despite some few periods of suspension is still happening. We aim to understand the intimate relation between the legitimization of violence in different levels and the discourse of Duterte. For that, the article focus in three main objectives being the first one analyzing the rise of Duterte to power and the speech which enabled it which has a highly dehumanizing structure. The second objective is analyzing the violence of this ‘War on Drugs’ from it’s effects on the bodies, the symbolic violence and in terms of structural violence. Lastly, the article looks at ways of resisting to the sovereign power and how to restitue agency and fight dehumanization.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Resumo: Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar o caso da Guerra contra as Drogas nas Filipinas, iniciada desde 2016 com a eleição do presidente Rodrigo Duterte e que apesar de algumas poucas pausas continua ocorrendo. Buscamos compreender a íntima relação entre a legitimação da violência em diferentes níveis e o discurso político de Duterte em diferentes níveis. Para isso, circulamos em três objetivos sendo o primeiro analisar a ascensão e o discurso de Duterte, sua estrutura e caráter desumanizador. O Segundo objetivo é analisar a violência dessa Guerra às drogas desde os corpos até o simbólico. Por último, analisaremos maneiras de resistência ao poder soberano e as maneiras como têm se restituído agência e lutado contra a desumanização dos usuários
